Garage door stuck?
Your door refuses to move. Do not force it under any circumstances - you risk snapping a cable under tension or deforming the rails. Call us on +352 691 545 407: a technician guides you over the phone and comes out quickly, subject to availability.

Why is your door stuck
A stuck door has 5 main causes. Each has its characteristic symptoms - identify yours before calling to speed up the intervention.
Broken torsion spring
The spring stores the energy needed to lift the door (200 to 400 kg of force). When it breaks, the door becomes impossible to lift - manually or by the motor.
- Loud, sharp snapping noise
- Door extremely heavy, impossible to lift
- Cable slack or hanging on the floor
- Spring visible with a gap in the middle
Motor in safety mode or failed
The motor has entered safety mode (maximum force exceeded) or the electronic circuit has burnt out. It hums without moving or does not react at all.
- Continuous humming without movement
- Red LED flashing on the motor
- No reaction from remote control + wall button
- Burning or hot plastic smell
Lifting cable snapped or derailed
The cable transmits the spring force to the door panel. If it snaps or jumps off the pulley, one side of the door drops - the door jams at an angle.
- Door leaning to one side
- Cable visible on the floor or coiled up
- One side goes up, the other does not
- Metallic grinding noise when opening
Rail bent or obstructed
A bent rail (vehicle impact, building settlement) or a foreign body lodged inside (gravel, leaf, fallen object) blocks the rollers from passing through.
- Door stops at a specific point
- Localised grinding noise midway
- Roller visibly stuck against the rail
- Rail visibly bent or misaligned
Photoelectric sensor dirty
The safety sensors at the bottom of the rails detect a phantom obstacle (dust, cobweb, condensation) and prevent the door from closing or opening.
- Door reverses immediately
- Motor LED normal, but door refuses to move
- Works intermittently
- Problem appeared after rain or cold weather
What to do while you wait?
While waiting for the technician, these 3 steps can prevent an accident or further damage.
Do not force it
If the door resists, stop immediately. Forcing a jammed mechanism can snap cables under tension, deform the rails or cause the door to fall abruptly. A spring under tension stores the equivalent of 300 kg of force.
Secure the area
If the door is stuck open or half-open: do not let anyone pass underneath. Prop it up with a sturdy object (prop, breeze block). If possible, disconnect the motor via the red manual release cord.
Call Fermelux
Describe the symptoms to the technician who answers. They will guide you over the phone while you wait: how to secure the area, which simple steps to try (remote control batteries, sensor realignment), and estimate the likely cost.
