The LPU 42 (42 mm panel, U = 1.3 W/m²K installed) is the most requested range; the LPU 67 Thermo (67 mm panel, U = 1.0 W/m²K installed, 0.91 with ThermoFrame) is recommended for heated garages or passive houses. The quote includes the made-to-measure door, operator, remote controls and full installation by our qualified technicians. Call +352 35 53 78.

Question 3

Question 4

Question 6

How much does it cost to motorise an existing garage door?

Accepted Answer

Motorising an existing garage door is priced in a free quote, installation included. The price varies with the type of operator (ProMatic or SupraMatic) and the compatibility of your current door. A quick assessment during the technical survey confirms feasibility. Call +352 35 53 78.

Question 7

How are travel charges shown in Luxembourg?

Accepted Answer

Fermelux operates throughout the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, whether you are in Luxembourg City, Esch-sur-Alzette, Ettelbruck or any other municipality. The quote is free and clearly lists every item, travel included, before you order. Repairs are carried out Monday to Friday (8am-12pm / 1pm-5pm); outside these hours, only under a specific maintenance contract.

Question 8

Can I pay in instalments?

Accepted Answer

Payment terms are set out in the quote. Under our general terms and conditions of sale, a 30% deposit is due on order and the 70% balance at the end of the work, on the day of commissioning. For any instalment request, contact us: we discuss it case by case when the quote is accepted.

Question 9

What budget for an insulated garage door (passive house)?

Accepted Answer

For a passive house in Luxembourg, the Hörmann LPU 67 Thermo sectional door (67 mm panel, U = 1.0 W/m²K installed, 0.91 with ThermoFrame) is priced in a free quote, installation included. It is the best-insulated sectional in Hörmann's residential range and helps achieve the airtightness required by passive standards. The optional ThermoFrame (thermally broken profile fitted to the frame) completes the installation. Ask our technicians for advice on +352 35 53 78.

Question 10

How much does an annual maintenance contract cost?

Accepted Answer

The annual Fermelux maintenance contract is priced in a free quote according to the door and operator type. It covers a full door inspection, lubrication, spring adjustment, safety testing and preventive replacement of wear parts. It is the best way to extend the life of your installation. Call +352 35 53 78.

Question 11

What is the cost of a garage door repair?

Accepted Answer

The price of a repair depends on the nature of the fault (spring, remote control, operator reprogramming…): it is set in a free quote, always handed over before any repair. Repairs Monday to Friday (8am-12pm / 1pm-5pm) on +352 691 545 407, fast callout subject to availability during opening hours.

Question 12

Do you offer discounts for multiple doors?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Fermelux offers volume discounts for the installation of multiple garage doors on the same site in Luxembourg (residential complexes, co-ownerships, housing developments). The discount percentage depends on the number of doors and the configuration. Contact us on +352 35 53 78 for a free group quotation.

Question 13

How does the installation of a garage door proceed?

Accepted Answer

Installation follows 4 steps: free technical survey (30 minutes), fast free detailed quotation, made-to-measure manufacture to order (lead time confirmed with your quote), then installation generally completed in one day. Our technicians handle everything: removal of the old door, installation, adjustments, safety tests and waste disposal. Contact us on +352 35 53 78.

Question 14

How long does the fitting of a sectional door take?

Accepted Answer

Installing a Hörmann sectional door is generally completed in one day, operator included, even for a replacement with removal of the old door. Our teams work in Luxembourg Monday to Friday. The door is operational and tested on the day of installation.

Question 15

Is a permit required to change a garage door in Luxembourg?

Accepted Answer

No, a like-for-like replacement of an existing garage door does not require a permit in Luxembourg. However, if you are modifying the opening (enlargement, new bay, change of facade), a municipal authorisation is required. Fermelux can assist you with these administrative procedures if necessary. Contact us for personalised advice.

Question 16

Can I install a garage door myself?

Accepted Answer

While technically possible, self-installation is strongly discouraged for safety reasons (springs under high tension, heavy door) and for warranty reasons: the Hörmann manufacturer warranty (up to 10 years on the door and 5 years on the operator, subject to Hörmann conditions) assumes installation in line with Hörmann's fitting instructions, ideally by an approved professional such as Fermelux. In addition, CE compliance and safety adjustments require specific tools and know-how.

Question 17

What happens to the old door during a replacement?

Accepted Answer

Fermelux handles the removal, disposal and recycling of your old garage door at no extra cost in Luxembourg. This service is included in all our all-inclusive quotations. The old door is taken to an approved recycling centre. You have nothing to manage.

Question 18

Does the masonry need to be modified for a sectional door?

Accepted Answer

In the majority of cases, no. The Hörmann sectional door fits most existing openings thanks to its 23 standard sizes (RenoMatic range) and its made-to-measure options. Minor adaptations (squaring the frame, fitting angle brackets) may be necessary in certain cases. Fermelux assesses this during the free technical survey in Luxembourg.

Question 19

What is the manufacturing lead time for a made-to-measure door?

Accepted Answer

Hörmann garage doors are made to measure to order; the lead time depends on the model and options (special finishes such as Duragrain, RAL on request…), and we confirm it with your quote. Fermelux provides a precise schedule upon order and coordinates delivery and fitting in Luxembourg.

Question 20

Can a garage door be installed without electricity?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a garage door can be installed without motorisation and operated manually in Luxembourg. Hörmann doors are equipped with handles and locks for comfortable manual use. Should you wish to add motorisation later, Fermelux provisions the cable routing during the initial installation. Contact us on +352 35 53 78.

Question 21

Can I motorise my existing garage door?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in most cases it is possible to motorise an existing garage door in Luxembourg. Fermelux installs Hörmann SupraMatic and ProMatic motorisations, compatible with most sectional and up-and-over doors. A quick assessment during the technical survey confirms feasibility and the appropriate motor model. Call +352 35 53 78.

Question 22

What is the difference between ProMatic and SupraMatic?

Accepted Answer

The ProMatic is Hörmann's entry-level motor: reliable, compact, ideal for residential use (up to 25 cycles per day, 20 cm/s, optional Bluetooth). The SupraMatic is the premium motor: faster (up to 25 cm/s), built-in Bluetooth, brighter LED lighting and a stainless-steel cover. In Luxembourg, Fermelux recommends the SupraMatic for garages attached to the house (noise reduction). Contact us for personalised advice.

Question 23

Is my garage door compatible with Apple HomeKit?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Hörmann motorisations equipped with the BiSecur system are compatible with Apple Home via the Hörmann WLAN gateway (sold separately, connected to the operator via the HCP bus; HAP 1 HCP adapter for Series 4 operators). You can open and close your door from the Home app on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, and integrate it into your Siri scenarios in Luxembourg. Fermelux installs and configures the complete system.

Question 24

How does the BiSecur remote control work?

Accepted Answer

BiSecur is Hörmann's secure radio system (868 MHz) with 128-bit encryption (comparable to online banking, according to Hörmann). The signal combines a fixed-code part, a rolling-code part and a manufacturer key, which protects it against copying. Smartphone control works via Bluetooth with the BlueSecur app (when nearby) or remotely via the Hörmann WLAN gateway. Contact Fermelux for a demonstration.

Question 25

Can I open my garage door with a smartphone?

Accepted Answer

Yes. With the Hörmann WLAN gateway (connected to the operator via the HCP bus), you can control your door remotely via Apple Home, Amazon Alexa or Google Home and see whether it is open or closed. When nearby, the BlueSecur app can also open it via Bluetooth. Fermelux installs and configures the gateway during fitting or as a retrofit. Call +352 35 53 78.

Question 26

What is the electricity consumption of a garage door motor?

Accepted Answer

Current Hörmann operators use very little power on standby: 0.6 W for the SupraMatic 4 and ProMatic 4 (under 1 W according to earlier catalogue editions). Consumption during door cycles remains low over a year. Contact us for further information.

Question 27

Can I add a keypad to a motorised door?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Hörmann offers BiSecur radio code keypads (FCT 3 BS, FCT 10 BS) or wired keypads (CTR, vandal-resistant CTV 3-1) which mount on the outside of the garage in Luxembourg. They open the door without a remote control using a 4- to 6-digit code. Ideal if you exercise outdoors or wish to provide temporary access to a neighbour. Fermelux installs it in less than one hour.

Question 28

How do I programme a new Hörmann remote control?

Accepted Answer

Programming a Hörmann BiSecur remote control takes 3 steps: press the learning button on the motor, then press the desired button on the new remote control, and confirm. The whole process takes less than 2 minutes. If you run into difficulties in Luxembourg, Fermelux can programme your remote controls on site or remotely. Call +352 35 53 78.

Question 29

My garage door will not open, what should I do?

Accepted Answer

First check the electricity supply (circuit breaker, socket) and the remote control batteries. If the problem persists, use the manual release (red cord on the motor carriage) to open the door. Never force a jammed door - the springs under tension are dangerous. Call Fermelux on +352 691 545 407 for a prompt repair in Luxembourg.

Question 30

How do I know if my garage door spring is broken?

Accepted Answer

A broken spring typically shows as a door that is abnormally heavy to lift manually, a sharp snapping noise heard from inside the house, or a spring that is visibly slack or in two pieces above the door. Never attempt to replace a spring yourself - the tension is extremely dangerous. Contact Fermelux on +352 691 545 407 for a professional replacement in Luxembourg.

Question 31

Garage door stuck in the open position: what are the solutions?

Accepted Answer

A door stuck in the open position is generally caused by a problem with the spring, cable or track. Whilst awaiting the repair, secure the garage (padlock, tarpaulin). Do not try to force the door down, as the mechanism could give way suddenly. Repairs Monday to Friday (8am-12pm / 1pm-5pm) on +352 691 545 407: fast callout subject to availability during opening hours to diagnose and repair.

Question 32

My garage door motor is noisy: is this normal?

Accepted Answer

A slight humming is normal, but squeaking, clattering or abnormal vibrations indicate a problem. The most common causes in Luxembourg: poorly lubricated tracks, wear parts requiring replacement, loose fixings or a slack chain/belt. An annual Fermelux service prevents these issues. Contact us on +352 35 53 78 for an assessment.

Question 33

How much does it cost to replace a garage door spring?

Accepted Answer

Replacing a garage door spring is priced in a free quote, part and labour included. The price varies with the spring type (torsion or tension) and the door dimensions. Fermelux uses only genuine Hörmann springs, matched to the weight of your door. Repairs Monday to Friday (8am-12pm / 1pm-5pm), fast callout subject to availability during opening hours: call +352 691 545 407.

Question 34

Do you carry out repairs at weekends and on public holidays in Luxembourg?

Accepted Answer

No. Fermelux repairs are carried out Monday to Friday, 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm. Outside these hours (nights, weekends, public holidays) there is no callout, except for customers with a specific maintenance contract that includes this service. In the meantime: do not force the door, never touch the springs or cables, and secure the access and your vehicle. Call +352 691 545 407 or email info@fermelux.lu: we will call you back as soon as we reopen (Monday 8am after a weekend).

Question 35

My remote control no longer works: what should I check?

Accepted Answer

Start by replacing the battery (CR 2032 on HSE mini remotes, AAA on the HS 5 BS). If the problem persists, check whether the remote control indicator light illuminates when you press a button. If so, the motor receiver may be at fault. Try reprogramming the remote control. If nothing works, contact Fermelux on +352 35 53 78 for an assessment in Luxembourg.

Question 36

How quickly do you attend for an emergency repair?

Accepted Answer

Fermelux provides repairs throughout the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Monday to Friday (8am-12pm / 1pm-5pm), with a fast callout subject to availability during opening hours; outside these hours, only under a specific maintenance contract. Emergencies (jammed door, break-in, safety issue) are handled as a priority. Call our emergency line on +352 691 545 407.

Question 37

How often should a garage door be serviced?

Accepted Answer

An annual professional service is recommended to ensure the proper functioning and longevity of your garage door in Luxembourg. Between visits, you can lubricate the tracks and hinges every 6 months with a silicone spray. Fermelux offers annual maintenance contracts on a free quote. Contact us on +352 35 53 78.

Question 38

What does a Fermelux maintenance contract include?

Accepted Answer

The annual Fermelux maintenance contract includes: complete inspection of the door and motorisation, lubrication of all moving parts, spring tension adjustment, safety device testing (photocells, anti-crush), seal integrity inspection and preventive replacement of wear parts. Priority attendance in the event of a breakdown in Luxembourg. Call +352 35 53 78.

Question 39

What is the warranty period on a Hörmann door?

Accepted Answer

Hörmann grants a manufacturer warranty of up to 10 years on the door and 5 years on the operator, subject to Hörmann conditions, for a door installed in line with Hörmann's fitting instructions, for example by an approved installer such as Fermelux. Wear parts (springs, seals, cables) fall under Hörmann's specific conditions. Annual maintenance helps prevent breakdowns.

Question 40

Is maintenance mandatory to retain the warranty?

Accepted Answer

Annual maintenance by an approved professional is not strictly 'mandatory' in the legal sense, but Hörmann may refuse a warranty claim if a maintenance deficiency is identified in Luxembourg. In practice, a Fermelux maintenance contract safeguards your warranty and avoids costly breakdowns. It is a worthwhile investment. Contact us on +352 35 53 78.

Question 41

How do I lubricate the tracks of a garage door?

Accepted Answer

Apply a silicone lubricant spray (never WD-40 or thick grease) to the vertical tracks, hinges and rollers every 6 months. Wipe away the excess with a clean cloth. Never lubricate torsion springs yourself - leave that to a Fermelux professional in Luxembourg. For a complete service, call +352 35 53 78.

Question 42

What is the lifespan of a sectional garage door?

Accepted Answer

A well-maintained Hörmann sectional garage door has a very long service life. The springs are wear parts that can be replaced to extend the door's lifespan in Luxembourg. An annual Fermelux service optimises the longevity of your installation. Contact us for a maintenance contract.

Question 43

Are Hörmann spare parts available in Luxembourg?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Fermelux maintains a permanent stock of original Hörmann spare parts in Luxembourg: springs, cables, rollers, seals, remote controls, electronic circuit boards. Less common parts are ordered from the Hörmann factory; we confirm the lead time with your quote. All repairs use certified original parts. Call +352 35 53 78.

Question 44

What is the difference between a sectional door and an up-and-over door?

Accepted Answer

The sectional door comprises articulated panels that slide vertically then along the ceiling - it offers superior thermal insulation (installed U-value from 1.3 to 1.0 W/m²K) and does not encroach on the driveway. The up-and-over door is a one-piece leaf that swings upwards - more economical, but it projects outwards when opening. Fermelux advises you according to your configuration.

Question 45

Garage door LPU 42 or LPU 67: which to choose?

Accepted Answer

The LPU 42 (42 mm panel, U = 1.3 W/m²K installed) is suitable for unheated garages or those separate from the house. The LPU 67 Thermo (67 mm panel, U = 1.0 W/m²K installed, 0.91 with ThermoFrame) is the optimal choice for heated or attached garages and passive houses in Luxembourg, with markedly better thermal performance; the price difference is set out in a free quote. Contact Fermelux on +352 35 53 78 for personalised advice.

Question 46

What is a ceiling-tracked garage door?

Accepted Answer

A ceiling-tracked door is a sectional door whose panels slide horizontally beneath the garage ceiling following a vertical ascent along the tracks. It is the most common and highest-performing door type in Luxembourg: maximum space gain, excellent insulation and quiet operation. The Hörmann LPU 42 and LPU 67 doors operate on this principle. Request a demonstration in our showroom.

Question 47

Can I customise the colour of a Hörmann garage door?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Hörmann offers over 200 colours and finishes: classic RAL shades (white, anthracite grey, black), Decograin (realistic wood-effect: Golden Oak, Dark Oak, Night Oak), Duragrain (ultra-resistant to UV and scratches) and metallic finishes. Fermelux has samples in its showroom in Luxembourg for comparing textures and shades. Call +352 35 53 78.

Question 48

What is the best garage door for a passive house?

Accepted Answer

The Hörmann LPU 67 Thermo, with its 67 mm panel and U = 1.0 W/m²K installed (0.91 with ThermoFrame), is the best-insulated sectional door in Hörmann's residential range, ideal for passive houses in Luxembourg. With the optional ThermoFrame, which breaks the thermal bridge between frame and masonry, it meets demanding airtightness requirements. Fermelux specialises in this type of installation. Contact us for a quotation.

Question 49

Are RollMatic roller doors suitable for garages with low headroom?

Accepted Answer

Not really: the RollMatic needs 290 mm of headroom (335 mm for doors over 2,300 mm high), compared with 115 mm (Z track) to 210 mm (N track) for a motorised LPU sectional door. Its strength lies elsewhere: the curtain rolls into a box above the opening, leaving the whole ceiling free. For very low headroom, Hörmann offers the RollMatic OD ceiling-retracting door, which needs only 60 mm. Contact Fermelux on +352 35 53 78.

Question 50

What is the Duragrain finish?

Accepted Answer

Duragrain is a Hörmann finish produced by digital printing protected by a highly resistant lacquer: it faithfully reproduces the look of wood, slate or concrete (30 decors, L ribs only), with good resistance to UV, scratches and weathering. Unlike Decograin (a synthetic film laminated onto the steel), the Duragrain decor is printed directly onto the panel. To be discovered in the Fermelux showroom in Luxembourg.

Question 51

Do Hörmann doors resist break-in attempts?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When motorised, Hörmann garage doors are protected by the mechanical anti-lift lock built into the operator rail: once closed, the door cannot be lifted from outside. For enhanced security, Hörmann offers RC2 burglar-resistant equipment (optional on the LPU 42, standard on the LPU 67 Thermo). Contact Fermelux for further information.

Question 52

Do you operate throughout the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Fermelux operates throughout the entire Grand Duchy of Luxembourg without exception: Luxembourg City, Esch-sur-Alzette, Differdange, Dudelange, Ettelbruck, Diekirch, Wiltz, Clervaux, Echternach, Remich, Grevenmacher and all surrounding municipalities. Question 53

What is the response time in Luxembourg City?

Accepted Answer

Emergency repair: +352 691 545 407.

Question 54

Is Fermelux an approved Hörmann installer in Luxembourg?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Fermelux is an approved Hörmann installer in Luxembourg. We use only genuine Hörmann parts and our installations follow the manufacturer's fitting instructions, a condition of the Hörmann manufacturer warranty (up to 10 years on the door and 5 years on the operator, subject to Hörmann conditions). We also install Roma roll-up garage doors; Roma is a German manufacturer (Burgau, Bavaria) of roller shutters and roll-up doors.

Question 55

Is there a garage door showroom in Luxembourg?

Accepted Answer

Compare finishes (Decograin, Duragrain, RAL), try out operators and discover Smart Home solutions. Visits by appointment, Monday to Friday (8am-12pm / 1pm-5pm). Call +352 35 53 78.

Question 56

Do you also operate in the border areas (Arlon, Thionville, Trier)?

Accepted Answer

We can occasionally operate in the nearby border areas (Arlon, Athus on the Belgian side; Thionville, Sierck on the French side; Trier on the German side) subject to availability and with an adapted call-out surcharge.
