Doors for
winemakers & cellars

Width 8 m tractors U = 0.51 W/m²K installed (cellar) Z275 galvanised steel Stone integration

Your harvest is concentrated in a few intense weeks, your barrels age at 12 °C all year round, your tasting room welcomes wine tourists at weekends. Three uses, three doors. Fermelux equips estates along the Luxembourg Moselle - Schengen, Remich, Wormeldange, Grevenmacher - with Hörmann doors designed for winemaking: wide SPU F42 for the harvest cellar and tractors, SPU 67 Thermo for the ageing cellar, Rolltor SB for press and tasting room access.

WHY FERMELUX FOR YOUR ESTATE

Built for winemaking

A wine cellar is not a warehouse: ambient humidity exceeds 75%, tractors with grape trailers need oversized widths, and a thermal variation in the cellar can compromise an entire vintage. We understand oenological constraints and size each door accordingly.

Widths for tractors & grape trailers

A John Deere 6M tractor with a grape hopper is 2.55 m wide, but the entry manoeuvre into the cellar requires a minimum of 4 m of useful passage - ideally 6 m to leave margin for two successive loads. The SPU F42 goes up to 8,000 mm wide and 7,500 mm high without an intermediate mullion. No blockage during the harvest.

Thermal stability for ageing cellars

A barrel cellar requires 12 to 15 °C all year round with a variation below 2 °C. The SPU 67 Thermo with ThermoFrame reaches U = 0.51 W/m²K (installed door), the best insulation in the Hörmann industrial range. Your lees ageing or malolactic takes place under controlled conditions, without overconsumption by the cooling unit.

Cellar humidity resistance

The cellar atmosphere swings between 70 and 85% relative humidity - a fatal condition for black steel, which rusts in one season. All our Hörmann doors are supplied in standard Z275 galvanised steel, with a Z450 option for the most exposed sites. EPDM seals resistant to SO₂ and fermentation vapours.

Harvest seasonality - 2 critical months

Your cellar door runs 20 to 40 cycles/day out of season then 150 to 300 cycles/day during a 15-day harvest. A breakdown in September halts your grape reception. We size the drive and springs for the peak, not the average - and schedule preventive maintenance in July, before the harvest.

Architectural integration - heritage buildings

Moselle cellars are often 19th-century stone buildings, listed or of heritage interest. We deliver doors in discreet colours RAL 7016, 8017, 9007 or Decograin oak finish to blend into the fabric. The Rolltor SB, with its minimal lateral footprint, preserves the original masonry openings.

Maintenance outside harvest

We schedule your maintenance visits in July-August or February-March - never during vinification or sensitive ageing. Breakdown service Monday to Friday (8am-12pm / 1pm-5pm) on +352 691 545 407 across the entire Luxembourg Moselle (Schengen to Mertert), fast call-out subject to availability; outside these hours, only under a specific maintenance contract. Original Hörmann parts.

RECOMMENDED COMBINATION

The Hörmann wine trio

A complete estate combines three doors for three distinct uses: the winemaking cellar (tractors, harvest, wide passage), the ageing cellar (maximum thermal insulation) and the tasting room / press access (frequent openings, zero footprint). Each door answers its own business logic.

DRIVES & CONTROL

Drives for harvest peak

The classic pitfall of wine cellar sizing: choosing the drive on average annual cadence (30 cycles/day) instead of the harvest peak (300 cycles/day). Result: the door breaks during grape reception. We always size for the peak.

Recommended drives

WA 500 FU

Shaft-mounted drive with frequency inverter - the safe choice for a cellar with a seasonal peak. up to 1.0 m/s, 25 cycles/hour (30 with heavy-duty option), smooth start that preserves the springs during the harvest. Mandatory on SPU F42 as soon as 200 cycles/day are expected at peak.

  • › FU inverter
  • › 1.0 m/s
  • › 25-30 cycles/h
  • › Smooth start

WA 300 S4

230 V shaft-mounted drive for ageing cellars with low cadence. 0.19 m/s, 10 cycles/hour and up to 150 cycles/day, economical and silent. Ideal on SPU 67 Thermo barrel access where every opening must be short to preserve temperature.

  • › 230 V
  • › 0.19 m/s
  • › 10 cycles/h
  • › Silent

WA 300 R S4

Dedicated drive for Rolltor SB - barrel-mounted, silent, operated by remote control or wall button. Perfect for a tasting room where the door must stay manoeuvrable for the public.

  • › Barrel drive
  • › BiSecur remote
  • › Soft stop
  • › Integrated control

CRITICAL WINE OPTIONS

Options that make the difference

These 12 options address the specific constraints of a wine cellar - humidity, seasonality, heritage integration, wine tourism. They are not cosmetic; they solve field issues we see at every harvest.

Z450 galvanisation
Reinforced zinc layer for very humid cellar atmospheres (> 80% RH) or Moselle proximity. Doubles panel life compared to standard Z275.
ThermoFrame
Thermally broken frame profile: on the SPU 67 Thermo, U drops from 0.62 to 0.51 W/m²K (installed door). Essential to reach this value in the barrel ageing cellar.
Anti-SO₂ EPDM seals
Reinforced seals resistant to sulphur vapours and fermentation acids. Doubled service life compared to standard seals in a winemaking atmosphere.
Decograin oak finish
Oak or Golden Oak imitation decor film for heritage integration. UV- and humidity-resistant, preserves the visual identity of stone buildings.
Subtle RAL shades
RAL 7016 (anthracite), RAL 8017 (chocolate brown), RAL 9007 (aluminium grey) - colours validated by Luxembourg heritage architects for listed buildings.
Stepless wicket door
Wicket door 940 mm pedestrian passage integrated into the sectional door. Avoids full opening for daily transits to the cellar, preserving the temperature of the adjoining cellar.
Perimeter glazing
Duratec glazing as a high belt for natural light in blind cellars. Harvester comfort gain and lighting savings.
Infrared photo barriers
Full-height door detection, protects harvesters and wine tourism visitors. Mandatory in case of public access to the tasting room.
IP65 push button
Sealed manual control for humid cellars and high-pressure cleaning areas. Hold-to-run button for barrel handling.
Harvest signalling light
Flashing red light when opening, secures tractor-pedestrian crossings during the harvest peak when several trailers manoeuvre simultaneously.
Winter kit -15 °C
Synthetic oil and reinforced EPDM seals for unheated cellars exposed to January frosts on the slopes of Wormeldange and Ahn.
July maintenance contract
Preventive visit scheduled every July, before the harvest. Spring replacement, roller greasing, drive check - no breakdown tolerated in September.

A John Deere 6M tractor or equivalent with a grape hopper is 2.55 m overall, but the cellar entry manoeuvre requires a minimum useful passage of 4 m - ideally 5 to 6 m to absorb two successive trailers without slowing the flow. The SPU F42 goes up to 8,000 mm wide without an intermediate mullion and 7,500 mm high, ample for tarpaulin trailers. This is the reference for a properly sized winemaking cellar.
