Industrial garage
doors
Industrial garage doors meet radically different requirements from residential doors: non-standard dimensions, intensive cycles (up to 200,000 operations for a sectional door with the optional long-life package), certified thermal insulation, fire safety and compliance with EN 12453/12604 standards. This guide details the 6 families of Hörmann industrial doors - sectional SPU F42/67 Thermo, flush-fitting cladding ALR F42, high-speed doors HS 7030/V 5030, sectional curtains, rolling grilles and FlexFire fire curtains - with the technical criteria for sizing, insulating and motorising your installations in Luxembourg.
Industrial doors
Hörmann offers 6 door families for industrial, commercial and collective applications. Each family meets specific constraints: dimensions, frequency of use, thermal insulation, opening speed, fire resistance or burglar resistance. Sizing is made to measure, with widths up to 12,000 mm and heights up to 9,000 mm (Rolltor DD roller shutter).

« An industrial door is not chosen the same way as a residential door. We are talking about dimensions up to 10 × 8 m, 50,000 cycles as standard and up to 200,000 with the long-life package, opening speeds up to 2.5 m/s (HS 7030), and mandatory EN 12453/12604 safety standards. The SPU 67 Thermo reaches U = 0.51 W/m²K as an installed door with ThermoFrame - the best insulation in the Hörmann industrial range (value for a 5 × 5 m door). The energy difference is colossal. And for industrial cold storage, the IsoSpeed Cold 100 operates down to -28 °C with U = 0.50. This is a completely different world. »
The 6 industrial criteria
Sizing an industrial door relies on 6 technical criteria that our experts systematically verify: dimensions, mechanical resistance, insulation, speed/cycles, motorisation and regulatory compliance. Each criterion impacts the choice of door family, budget and installation longevity.
Dimensions & clearance
Widths range from 1,000 mm (HG-L grille) to 12,000 mm (Rolltor DD shutter). Heights reach 9,000 mm for roller shutters, 8,000 mm for SPU 67 Thermo sectional doors (7,500 mm for the SPU F42) and 7,000 mm for flexible high-speed doors (V 6020 TRL). The available headroom determines the door type: sectional doors need at least 200 mm of headroom (low-headroom L track, manual door), roller shutters sit in a coil box above the opening, and the HS 7030 PU spiral high-speed door needs 920 mm, versus 480 mm for the HS 5015 PU N 42 with standard track.
Wind resistance & weatherproofing
Mechanical resistance classes determine suitability for industrial environments. The SPU F42 achieves wind class 3 (class 4 up to 4,000 mm wide, EN 12424), water class 3 (EN 12425) and air permeability class 2 (EN 12426). The Rolltor DD reaches wind class 4 with the W4 pack. HS 7030 high-speed doors combine wind class 5 (up to 5,000 mm wide) and 31 dB of sound reduction (HS 7030 Acoustic). For storm-exposed sites, choose the highest wind class available for the door width.
Certified thermal insulation
The SPU F42 achieves U = 1.0 W/m²K (installed) and U = 0.94 with ThermoFrame. The SPU 67 Thermo goes down to U = 0.62 installed and U = 0.51 with ThermoFrame - the best insulation in the Hörmann industrial range (installed-door values). The ALR F42 flush-fitting cladding reaches U = 2.6. For cold storage, the IsoSpeed Cold 100 offers U = 0.50 and is designed for temperatures down to -28 °C. The thermal improvement from ThermoFrame reaches up to 21% on the SPU 67 Thermo for a 3,000 × 3,000 mm door.
Speed & number of cycles
Frequency of use determines the door family. SPU sectional doors: up to 50,000 cycles as standard, 200,000 with the optional long-life package, opening up to 1.0 m/s (WA 500 FU with chain box). HS 7030 high-speed doors: opening up to 2.5 m/s. V 5030 SEL flexible doors: 2.0 m/s (V 6030 SEL: 3.0 m/s with the optional AK 500 FUE-1 control). HS 5040 TurboLux S spiral door: over 4.0 m/s, the 'record speed' announced by Hörmann. For intensive use (logistics platform, food processing), every second of opening time counts in daily productivity.
Dedicated industrial motorisation
Hörmann industrial operators are sized for the required frequency and torque. WA 300 S4 (shaft-mounted, doors up to 6,000 × 4,500 mm), WA 500/WA 500 FU (shaft-mounted, up to 1.0 m/s), ITO 500 FU (rail operator, communal garages), SupraMatic HT (rail operator, communal garages, doors up to 6,750 mm wide), STA 500 FU (sliding gates up to 2,500 kg, 100 cycles/day, 560 control with BlueControl App). Shaft-mounted operators (WA 300 S4, WA 500) need no rail and keep the ceiling area free. The S75 and S140 direct drives equip the largest doors (S140: up to 10,000 × 8,000 mm and 1,080 kg).
Options & customisation
Industrial sectional doors offer a wide choice of RAL colours, and scratch-resistant Duratec synthetic glazing (double, triple or quadruple). The ALR F42 flush-fitting cladding accepts wood, metal, ceramic, HPL, Alucobond and Trespa Meteon. Integrated pedestrian wicket doors (940 mm passage, extra-flat 10 mm stainless steel threshold) make access easier for people with reduced mobility and can serve as emergency exits up to 5,500 mm of main door width. Burglar resistance RC2 is available as an option.

Thermal & technical performance
The U-value of Hörmann industrial doors covers the full range of needs. The SPU F42 achieves U = 1.0 W/m²K (installed door) - sufficient for most unheated halls. With the ThermoFrame (thermal break in the frame), it drops to U = 0.94 W/m²K (installed 5 × 5 m door). The SPU 67 Thermo leads the range: U = 0.62 W/m²K installed, U = 0.51 W/m²K with ThermoFrame - the best insulation in the Hörmann industrial range, on surfaces up to 80 m².
The door leaf weight varies with panel type and glazing; it determines operator choice and lintel structure. The ALR F42 flush-fitting cladding door requires exterior cladding (wood, Alucobond, HPL) that adds weight, and fully glazed ALR F42 Glazing versions are heavier than a solid-panel door: the operator (WA 500 or WA 500 FU) is chosen on the basis of the actual weight calculated for each project.
The peripheral weatherproofing of industrial sectional doors relies on double-lip EPDM seals between panels and a flexible bottom seal. The SPU 67 Thermo adds a continuous peripheral seal on the frame with ThermoFrame, which, with the sealing kit, raises air permeability to class 4 (class 2 as standard). For cold environments (Luxembourg Ardennes at -15 °C), this weatherproofing is critical, especially over surfaces of 30-75 m².
Acoustic attenuation is an often-overlooked industrial criterion. The SPU F42 achieves a sound reduction of Rw = 25 dB (24 dB with wicket door). The HS 7030 Acoustic version reaches 31 dB thanks to a specific panel and reinforced seals. For industrial halls in urban areas (Luxembourg City, Esch-sur-Alzette) or near residential properties, every decibel counts in project acceptability.
The integrated pedestrian wicket door is a strategic industrial option: passage of 940 mm (42 mm panel) or 905 mm (67 mm panel), extra-flat stainless steel threshold of 10 mm at centre / 5 mm at edges, suitable for people with reduced mobility. It can serve as an emergency exit (Fluchttür) up to 5,500 mm of main door width, avoiding the need for a separate emergency exit. This represents significant civil engineering savings.
Burglar resistance RC2 is available as an option on industrial sectional doors. For sensitive logistics sites, high-value warehouses or fleet garages, this certification guarantees the door resists a 3-minute attempted break-in using common tools (crowbar, screwdriver, sledgehammer).

Industrial ThermoFrame: integrated thermal break in the frame, reducing heat loss by up to 21% on a 3,000 × 3,000 mm SPU 67 Thermo door. A critical gain over surfaces of 30 to 75 m².
« On a logistics site, the door is not an accessory - it is a potential bottleneck. An HS 7030 opens at up to 2.5 m/s, versus 1.0 m/s at best for a motorised industrial sectional door (WA 500 FU). Over dozens of openings per day, the time saved turns into productivity. The maths speak for themselves. »

Get my industrial quote9 frequent industrial problems
The 9 most common problems on Hörmann industrial doors, with likely cause, solution and intervention level. Cases marked 'Pro' require a certified technician, 'Urgent' cases require immediate door shutdown.
| Problem | Likely cause | Solution | Level |
| The door does not close completely | Dirty or misaligned photocells, obstruction in the guides, limit switch out of adjustment. | Clean the photocells (microfibre cloth). Check for obstructions in the rails. If the problem persists: limit switch recalibration by a professional. | DIY possible |
| Abnormal noise during opening | Worn or dry rollers, slack springs, slack chain/belt, misaligned guidance. | Visually inspect the rollers and rail condition. Lubricate guide points (lithium grease). If rollers are damaged: professional replacement mandatory. | Pro recommended |
| The door stalls in an intermediate position | Motor thermal protection activated (overuse), obstacle detection triggered, power cut. | Allow the motor to cool for 15-20 minutes. Check for obstructions. If the door is stuck open: manual override is available on most industrial motorisations. | DIY possible |
| Significant air leakage under the door | Worn or deformed bottom seal, degraded threshold, wind pressure exceeding seal weatherproofing. | Replace the bottom seal (standard part). Check threshold condition. If infiltration persists with a new seal: check floor levelness (professional for realignment). | DIY possible |
| The door vibrates heavily in strong winds | Insufficient wind resistance class for site exposure, missing or worn anti-derailment hooks. | Check the presence and condition of anti-derailment hooks (mandatory safety EN 12604). If the door is not rated for the site's wind: reinforcement or replacement required (professional). | URGENT - Stop |
| The motor strains and trips | Unbalanced springs, panel too heavy for motor, mechanical obstruction, broken spring cable. | Check door balance (disengage and lift manually - the door should hold position). If springs are the cause: urgent professional intervention (panel fall hazard). | URGENT - Stop |
| Heavy condensation on the panel | Single-skin panel or insufficient insulation (high U-value), significant temperature differential between heated interior and cold exterior, insufficient hall ventilation. | Improve hall ventilation (high/low air vents). If condensation persists: replace with an insulated double-skin panel (SPU 67 Thermo, U = 0.62 W/m²K installed, 0.51 with ThermoFrame). Thermal diagnosis recommended. | Pro recommended |
| The integrated wicket door does not lock | Misaligned lock, worn strike plate, deformed threshold. | Check lock and strike plate alignment. Adjust if necessary. If the threshold is deformed: stainless steel threshold replacement by a professional (specific part, 10 mm thickness). | DIY possible |
| The HS 7030 high-speed door displays a fault code | Obstructed safety photocell, misaligned position encoder, inverter fault, obstacle in detection zone. | Consult the fault code in the HS 7030 manual. Clean the safety photocells. Reset the inverter (30-second power cut). If the fault persists: professional diagnosis with the BlueControl app. | Pro recommended |

Preventive maintenance routine
Standard EN 12635 requires a minimum annual maintenance for industrial doors. With doors designed for intensive use, preventive maintenance is critical for safety and longevity. Here is the programme recommended by Hörmann and applied by Fermelux.
Safety test & photocells
Test the auto-reverse (safety barrier): place an object during closing - the door must rise. Clean the photocells. Check ground loops (high-speed doors).
Cleaning & lubrication
Clean the guide rails and rollers. Lubricate moving points (lithium grease, never WD-40). Check the condition of peripheral EPDM seals and the bottom seal.
Spring & cable inspection
Check counterbalance spring tension (wear parts to be replaced according to the rated number of cycles). Inspect spring cables (no broken strands). Test the manual override.
Certified full maintenance
Full diagnosis by a certified technician: limit switch recalibration, EN 12453/12604 compliance test, balance check, electrical inspection (motor, inverter, cables), signed intervention report.
Recommended products
- Lithium grease for guides and rollers
- Silicone spray for EPDM seals
- Microfibre cloth for photocells
- Industrial cleaner for steel panels
Always avoid
- WD-40 on rails (attracts industrial dust)
- Modifying limit switches beyond specifications
- Ignoring fault codes on high-speed doors
- Working on springs without training (fatal hazard)
- Neglecting annual EN 12635 maintenance (insurance voided)
Mandatory industrial standards
Industrial doors are subject to strict European standards. Non-compliance exposes the operator to liability. Here are the applicable standards and what you need to verify.
Required compliance
- EN 12453 - Dynamic force ≤ 400NThe maximum dynamic force of the moving door must not exceed 400N. All Hörmann motorisations incorporate a calibrated force limiter. Annual verification is mandatory.
- EN 12604 - Anti-derailment hooksSectional doors must be fitted with anti-derailment hooks preventing panel fall in case of spring breakage. Mandatory presence, half-yearly verification.
- EN 12635 - Mandatory annual maintenanceEvery operator must have their industrial doors maintained at least once a year by a competent technician. The intervention report must be kept for 5 years.
- Photocells & safety barriersMotorised doors must have at least one crushing protection device (photocells or light curtain). High-speed doors require dual detection (photocells + ground loop).
Never without pro
- Tensioned counterbalance springsTorsion springs store considerable energy. Any intervention without specialist tooling and training is fatal. Entrust exclusively to a certified technician.
- Broken spring cablesA broken cable = immediate panel fall risk. Immediate door shutdown, zone cordoning, urgent professional call. Never attempt to raise the door manually.
- Unconfigured inverterA poorly configured speed inverter (acceleration, deceleration, max force) can make the door dangerous. Initial setup and modifications are reserved for a technician.
- Missing CE markingEvery industrial door must bear CE marking with a declaration of conformity. In its absence: the door is non-compliant, insurance may refuse to cover an incident.
Operator liability
In the event of an accident involving an unmaintained or non-compliant industrial door, the criminal liability of the operator is engaged. The maintenance register is your proof of diligence. Fermelux offers an annual maintenance contract including EN 12453/12604 verification and the conformity report.
