Sectional door
Garage door made of horizontal hinged panels that rise to the ceiling along side tracks.
Definition
The sectional door is the best-selling model in Luxembourg. It consists of 4 to 5 horizontal panels (sections) connected by hinges. When opening, the panels slide along vertical tracks and then tilt horizontally under the garage ceiling. The Hörmann LPU 42 and LPU 67 Thermo models are typical of this category.
Advantages
- No outward overhang - ideal when the car is parked close to the door.
- High thermal performance: U = 1.0 W/m²K for the installed LPU 67 Thermo (0.91 W/m²K with the optional ThermoFrame).
- Steel double-skin panels with injected polyurethane foam 42 mm or 67 mm.
- Compatible with SupraMatic E4 operator for silent opening.
Standard dimensions
- Width: 2,250 to 6,000 mm (LPU 42).
- Height: up to 3,000 mm for residential doors, up to 8,000 mm for industrial doors (SPU 67 Thermo).
- Panel thickness: 42 mm (LPU 42) or 67 mm (LPU 67 Thermo).
Required clearance
- Headroom (above the opening): from 100 mm for manual doors and 115 mm for powered doors (Z or L track).
- Ceiling depth: slightly more than the door height, including tracks and operator (exact figure depends on the track type).
- Side jambs: 90 to 125 mm each side.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a sectional door last?
A well-maintained Hörmann sectional door typically lasts 20 to 30 years. The springs are wear parts: their life depends on the number of cycles, and they are replaced during the door's lifetime.
Can a sectional door be fitted to an existing garage?
Yes, provided there is enough ceiling clearance and sufficient headroom: with Z or L tracks, 115 mm is enough for a powered door (100 mm for a manual one). Below that, the RollMatic OD up-and-under door, which needs only 60 mm, is the alternative.
Mechanics
