EN 13241 standard
Harmonised European standard defining safety and performance requirements for industrial and residential garage doors.
Definition
EN 13241 is the European reference standard for industrial, commercial and residential doors and gates. It replaced national standards and makes CE marking mandatory for all motorised doors sold in Europe since 2005. In Luxembourg, every installed door must comply with this standard.
Key requirements
- Mechanical resistance: panels, springs and cables sized for the use declared by the manufacturer.
- Personal safety: automatic stop on obstacle detection (photocell or safety edge).
- Maximum opening force: 400 N at start, 150 N at travel end.
- Air and water tightness: classes declared by the manufacturer (e.g. LPU 42 with L-ribbing: class 3).
- Wind resistance: class declared according to EN 12424 (e.g. LPU 42: class 3).
Declaration of Performance
- Every Hörmann door is supplied with a DoP detailing the classes achieved.
- Keep it carefully - mandatory document for insurance or expertise cases.

Frequently asked questions
Does CE marking guarantee quality?
CE marking guarantees compliance with the minimum requirements of EN 13241, not premium quality. A Hörmann door goes well beyond these minimums: the LPU 67 Thermo, for example, achieves U = 1.0 W/m²K installed and comes with RC2 burglar-resistant equipment as standard.
