LPU 42
vs
LPU 67 Thermo
The Hörmann internal duel. LPU 42 is the residential market standard. LPU 67 Thermo takes insulation further (67 mm thermally broken panels, U = 1.0 W/m²K installed door versus 1.3 W/m²K) for a noticeable premium (on quote). Is it really justified for your garage? This comparison analyses 8 technical criteria with Hörmann catalogue figures.

Hörmann LPU 42
The residential standard

Hörmann LPU 67 Thermo
Enhanced 67 mm insulation
Both panels in numbers
LPU 42 and LPU 67 Thermo share the same general Hörmann structure: double-wall steel, polyurethane foam. LPU 67 Thermo adds 25 mm of thickness, thermally broken panels and a double lip seal between panels: insulation improves markedly, and the premium is far from trivial.

8 technical criteria
Each criterion is evaluated on the 2026 Hörmann datasheets and our site experience in Luxembourg, where we install both models.
| Criterion | LPU 42 | LPU 67 Thermo | Advantage |
U insulation coefficient | 1.3 W/m²K installed door (panel 0.53 W/m²K), 1.2 W/m²K with the optional ThermoFrame. 42 mm double-wall steel panel. | 1.0 W/m²K installed door (panel 0.31 W/m²K), 0.91 W/m²K with the optional ThermoFrame - about 23% better than LPU 42. 67 mm thermally broken panels. | LPU 67 |
Installed price Luxembourg | Free quote on request. Standard Silkgrain finish, motor, installation and removal itemised in the quote. Market reference, clearly cheaper than the LPU 67 Thermo. | Free quote on request. Noticeable premium over the LPU 42 at equivalent dimensions. Gap only justified on specific use cases. | Tie |
Weight and frame requirements | Lighter 42 mm panel: standard torsion springs and operator, simple installation in most situations. | Heavier 67 mm panel: Hörmann sizes the torsion springs accordingly. It is still driven by the same ProMatic 4 / SupraMatic 4 operators, with no HT operator required. | LPU 42 |
Required lintel drop | Minimum headroom (powered door): 115 mm with Z and L track (100 mm manual), 210 mm with N track. Larger values with ThermoFrame or CR2. | Same base values as LPU 42: 115 mm with Z and L track (100 mm manual), 210 mm with N track. The CR2 equipment, standard on LPU 67, may increase the required headroom. | Tie |
Annual thermal profitability | Clear heating saving compared with an uninsulated door, especially on a heated attached garage. | Door heat losses roughly a quarter lower than LPU 42 (1.0 versus 1.3 W/m²K installed door). The gain only becomes noticeable if the garage is heated. | LPU 67 |
Finishes & decors | 7 surfaces (Woodgrain, Slategrain, Silkgrain, Sandgrain, Planar, Decograin in 6 designs, Duragrain in 30 designs), approx. 200 RAL colours. Full catalogue. | Narrower choice: Silkgrain surface (smooth, many colours including approx. 200 RAL) or Decograin in 3 designs (Titan Metallic, Golden Oak, Dark Oak), M or L ribs. No Woodgrain, Sandgrain, Planar or Duragrain. | LPU 42 |
Security & anti-burglary | Anti-lift protection via the operator, fall protection, obstacle detection. CR2 (RC2) burglar-resistant equipment available as an option. | Same safety systems as LPU 42, plus CR2 (RC2) burglar-resistant equipment as standard. | LPU 67 |
Required operator | ProMatic 4 or SupraMatic E4 (650 N, 800 N peak) for doors up to 5,500 mm wide and 13.75 m². Beyond that: SupraMatic P4 or H4. | Same ProMatic 4 / SupraMatic 4 operators (K, M, L rails); no HT operator required. For a large door: SupraMatic P4 (up to 15 m²) or H4 (up to 18 m²). | Tie |

Pros & cons

LPU 42
- De facto residential market standard
- Good insulation: U = 1.3 W/m²K installed door (1.2 with optional ThermoFrame)
- Installed price clearly below LPU 67 Thermo (free quote)
- Wider size range: up to 6,000 × 3,000 mm
- Can be driven by ProMatic 4 or SupraMatic 4 depending on door size
- Full finish catalogue (7 surfaces, approx. 200 RAL, Duragrain in 30 designs)
- Less insulation than LPU 67 Thermo (1.3 versus 1.0 W/m²K installed door)
- CR2 burglar-resistant equipment only as an option (standard on LPU 67)
- Not an option if you are seeking absolute maximum insulation
LPU 67 Thermo
- Insulation U = 1.0 W/m²K installed door (0.91 with optional ThermoFrame), panel 0.31 W/m²K
- 67 mm thermally broken panels, double lip seal between panels
- CR2 (RC2) burglar-resistant equipment as standard
- EN 13241 classes: wind load class 3, air and water tightness class 3
- Real thermal gain mainly in a heated garage or one adjoining heated rooms

Which for your garage?
The LPU 67 Thermo premium is only justified in 3 to 4 specific cases. Here are the 6 typical profiles - 4 that should stay on LPU 42 and 2 where LPU 67 is genuinely justified.
You are building or renovating a passive or very low-energy house. The garage door becomes a weak point of the envelope. LPU 67 Thermo is Hörmann's best-insulated sectional door (1.0 W/m²K installed door, 0.91 with ThermoFrame): have the value validated by your design office.
You are in a standard new build with an unheated garage. LPU 42 (1.3 W/m²K installed door, 1.2 with ThermoFrame) offers good insulation. Paying for LPU 67 is rarely justified.
You heat your garage like a living space (workshop, wine cellar, gym). LPU 67's insulation gain pays off over the long term.
You are replacing an existing door in an opening with tight dimensions (width, headroom). LPU 42 offers more track types, sizes (up to 6,000 mm wide) and finishes: often the simplest technical choice.
You have a classic residential home with integral garage. LPU 42 is technically sufficient. Keep the price difference to invest elsewhere (SupraMatic motor, Duragrain finish).
You replace an old non-insulated door. Moving to a LPU 42 sectional already represents a huge thermal leap. LPU 67 Thermo is overkill on this profile.
Our recommendation:
a tie on score, LPU 42 by default depending on use
Across 8 criteria, LPU 67 Thermo wins 3, LPU 42 2, with 3 ties (including price, on quote for both): the gap on score is small. The choice therefore depends on use: the LPU 42 covers most residential needs in Luxembourg at a clearly lower price, and its U-value of 1.3 W/m²K installed door (1.2 with ThermoFrame) is enough for most garages.
LPU 67 Thermo is only really justified in 2 specific cases: passive or very low-energy house (where every envelope element counts) and intensively heated garage (workshop, wine cellar, home gym). Outside these cases, the premium takes a very long time to pay back. Our advice: LPU 42 by default, LPU 67 only if your architect or your use explicitly calls for it.
