Hörmann
vs
Nice
Two very different approaches to the garage door market: Hörmann has designed and manufactured complete doors (panel + tracks + SupraMatic / ProMatic operator) since 1935, while Nice, an Italian automation group founded in 1993, specialises mainly in gate operators and offers dedicated garage door ranges (Spider, SOON) for up-and-over and sectional doors. This comparison analyses what each brand really does well on garage doors in Luxembourg - without confusing the two trades.

Two very different trades
Hörmann manufactures a complete garage door (insulated steel panel + hardware + tracks + integrated SupraMatic E4 or ProMatic 4 operator). Nice, based in Oderzo in Veneto, is above all an automation specialist for swing gates (Spin / Wingo series) and sliding gates (Robus series), with a dedicated garage door offer: Spider for up-and-over and sectional doors (including the brushless Spider 1200BLW) and SOON for sectional doors, complemented by the Mhouse range (GD0). The two brands do not play in the same category - which is what makes the choice interesting depending on your configuration.

8 brand criteria
Each criterion is evaluated against official Hörmann 2026 and Nice 2025-2026 catalogues, public technical datasheets, and our Luxembourg experience. Fermelux is an authorised Hörmann installer and also installs Roma; we do not install Nice - the analysis remains factual.
| Criterion | Hörmann | Nice | Advantage |
Residential garage door range breadth | 4 complete door families (RenoMatic, LPU 42, LPU 67 Thermo, Berry N80) + matching SupraMatic / ProMatic / WA 500 FU motors. Integrated A-to-Z offer. | No Nice panel: operators only, Spider (including the Spider 1200BLW) and SOON, for sectional and up-and-over doors. The panel always comes from another brand. | Hörmann |
Maximum thermal insulation | LPU 67 Thermo: 67 mm double-skin panel with thermal break (panel U 0.31 W/m²K), U = 1.0 W/m²K for the installed door and 0.91 W/m²K with the optional ThermoFrame. | Not applicable: Nice does not make panels. Insulation depends entirely on the third-party door manufacturer. | Hörmann |
Anti-intrusion safety EN 13241 | LPU doors compliant with EN 13241, operators compliant with EN 12453, mechanical anti-lift protection in the operator rail. CR2 (RC2) burglar-resistant equipment optional on the LPU 42, standard on the LPU 67 Thermo. | Nice motor compliant EN 12453 (crushing force). Anti-intrusion safety depends 100% on the third-party door fitted - not controlled by Nice. | Hörmann |
Motorisation & smart home connectivity | BiSecur 868 MHz radio with 128-bit encryption, bidirectional (status query with the HS 5 BS), SupraMatic E4 / P4 with built-in Bluetooth (BlueSecur app), homee compatible; Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home via the optional Hörmann WLAN gateway. | Proprietary Nice radio and Wi-Fi connectivity depending on the model, Nice app, compatible with Google Home and Alexa. Ecosystem designed primarily for gates. | Tie |
Manufacturer warranty | 10 years on the door, 5 years on the operator, under Hörmann's published warranty terms. | 3-year warranty on garage door operators (products manufactured since 2017). No panel warranty, as Nice does not make doors. | Hörmann |
Luxembourg installer network | Network of authorised Hörmann installers in Luxembourg, including Fermelux, specialised in garage doors. Original parts available through the Hörmann network. | Nice network in Luxembourg mainly gate-oriented, with few installers specialised in garage doors. Parts sometimes ordered from France or Italy. | Hörmann |
Indicative price (door + motor installed) | On quotation. RenoMatic + ProMatic 4, LPU 42 + SupraMatic E4 or LPU 67 Thermo: complete motorised door, price depending on size and options. | On quotation. Nice SOON or Spider motor kit: motor only, fitted to an existing door, budget well below a complete door. Complete door + Nice motor kit: rare in Luxembourg. | Tie |
Innovation & R&D | In-house development of panels, SupraMatic / ProMatic series 4 operators and the 128-bit encrypted BiSecur radio (process certified by Ruhr-Universität Bochum). Development centre in Steinhagen. | Labs in Oderzo and Trezzano, strong R&D on swing / sliding gates and barriers. Spider and SOON garage door ranges, including the brushless Spider 1200BLW. | Tie |

Pros & cons
Each brand's real strengths and weaknesses on the garage door trade in Luxembourg. Nice is a world reference on driveway gates - not necessarily on the complete garage door.
Hörmann
- Complete integrated door: panel + rails + motor designed together
- Hörmann warranty: 10 years on the door, 5 years on the operator
- BiSecur / homee ecosystem mature and secure bidirectional
- Network of authorised installers in Luxembourg, aftersales by the installer
- LPU 67 Thermo: U = 1.0 W/m²K installed door (0.91 with optional ThermoFrame)
- Original spare parts available through the Hörmann network
- A complete door (from the RenoMatic) costs much more than a simple motor kit
- No motor-only retrofit without changing the entry-level door
- Closed BiSecur ecosystem, little interoperability with third-party motors
Nice
- Excellent value-for-money on motor-only retrofit
- Nice app compatible with Google Home and Alexa
- Automation world specialist with strong R&D on driveway gates
- SOON / Spider motor kit easy to install on an existing door
- Refined Italian design, compact casings
- Does not manufacture a garage door panel: incomplete offer
- 3-year warranty on operators (versus 5 years on Hörmann operators)
- Luxembourg network gate-oriented, few garage door specialists
- Parts sometimes ordered from Italy, variable lead time
- No insulated panel or door warranty, as Nice does not make doors
Which by project?
Depending on whether you are building new, replacing only a motor, or looking for a full smart home integration, the right brand differs. Here are the most frequent profiles in Luxembourg.
You are installing a new garage door with insulated panel and operator. Hörmann supplies the integrated package, with a 10-year warranty on the door, 5 years on the operator and a connected SupraMatic E4.
Your manual up-and-over door works but you just want to add a motor. Nice Spider (on quotation from a Nice installer) remains competitive - without touching the panel.
You want Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and door status feedback. Hörmann offers these integrations via the optional WLAN gateway, homee, and BiSecur position query with the HS 5 BS.
You want the best possible insulation. The Hörmann LPU 67 Thermo (67 mm panel, U = 1.0 W/m²K installed door, 0.91 W/m²K with optional ThermoFrame) meets this need. Nice does not make insulated panels.
You already have an automated Nice gate and want the same Nice app to control everything. Nice SOON or Spider on a third-party sectional door lets you manage everything in the same ecosystem.
You want to find a technician quickly over the long term. The network of authorised Hörmann installers, specialised in garage doors, and the Hörmann warranty (10 years on the door, 5 years on the operator, versus 3 years on Nice operators) make the difference here.
Our recommendation:
Hörmann for the complete door
Across 8 criteria, Hörmann wins 5, Nice none, and 3 are tied, including price (quoted on request for both). The reason is simple: Hörmann makes a garage door, Nice makes an operator. When it comes to the panel, insulation, the door's burglar resistance, the warranty or a garage-door-specialised network, the comparison favours the integrated door manufacturer. It is not Nice's core business.
Nice remains an excellent choice in one specific case: retrofitting an operator on an existing up-and-over or sectional door in good condition, on a tight budget. The Spider and SOON kits are then generally cheaper than a complete door, although price is quoted on request in both cases. For a new build or a full renovation in Luxembourg, Hörmann keeps the advantage on the door itself; connectivity and innovation remain a tie.
